Untapped

I met a girl recently,

the type of girl one wouldn’t

spot in the crowd.

While her peers draw

the eyes of the world, she

remains silent. Quietly dusting

off her ashen-worn clothes

as she watches, grows, learns.

She’s not sun kissed, but her

kisses ignite her children (old and

adopted) every Spring.

You all know the girl,

she stood in the darkening

sea, and brushed her hair

aside to catch the raindrops

on her defiant face. The

strong silence announced

her resistance all while her

associates began to hear whispers

of her hidden beauty. Oh!

what a secret I’ve stumbled

upon, the ever-enduring Mermaid.
